Update: Using your iPhone on 3UK

If you want to import all your settings into your Jailbroken phone, I’ve created a carrier file… be sure to run ultrasn0w as your iPhone won’t recognize the Sim anyway – the carrier file enters the MMS settings, as well as tethering and 3G settings. It also includes the 3UK Logo for the top of the screeen.

Download it here: 3_custom.ipcc

Edit: If after you’ve installed the Custom Carrier, you can’t send MMS, Goto Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network
then in the MMSC box, add http:// before the text that’s in there.

WARNING: If you are using iTunes 9, you’ll need to do the following to enable the Carrier File to be used..

For Mac Users:
1. Close iTunes
2. Start Terminal
3. Run the following command:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
4. Press enter, now close Terminal

For PC Users:
1. Run Command Console (Run-Type in Command)
2. Type this command into the console:
Win 32 Bit: "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
Win 64 Bit: "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
3. Hit Enter

Updating your iPhone with the Carrier file:
1. Open iTunes & connect your iPhone.
2. Click on your iPhone in iTunes(under devices listing).
3. Windows Users: hold shift and click “Check for Update”. MAC OS X: hold alt and click “Check for Update”.
4. Select the .IPCC you downloaded earlier.
5. Reboot your iPhone.

Hi Dean, I spoke with you a long long time ago about using an iphone on 3uk, Anyway umpteen months down the line I have ditched my E71 and bought a friends 32gb 3GS running ios4.
He has sent off an official o2 unlock request using his details on Sunday however i bought the phone from him on Saturday and synced it with my itunes in my haste – two things regarding this really…do you think O2 will need his simcard in the phone to unlock (not sure of their process) and if they ask Apple to verify the unlock on their IMEI sever will they stop and say hold on this iphone was synced the day before to someone elses account! I’m really worried that I should of just bought a pay and go o2 card and filled the unlocking form with my details instead of jumping the gun…any advice is much appreciated

    • Dean Clinton says:

Don’t worry about syncing it to your iTunes, it won’t matter.
Regarding the unlocking process, I believe that you need the sim card in for it to complete – you may be better asking over at the O2 forums..

    • Dean Clinton says:

I’ve emailed you a new .IPCC file to try – that’s if your able to unlock 3.1.3, I’m not sure if it’s been done yet?

Thanks so much for this wonderful fix. Can finally tell 02 to stick their contract. Don’t suppose you’ve uncovered anything on the VVM front?

    Thanks again!

Is the procedure described above – dated 22 September still current?

I only ask because the comment dated 22 November (also above) says it is outdated.

    Grateful for any advice

    Cheers Dave
