Etomite as a Multi-Site CMS

0

Well I’ve been waiting for a feature to be integrated into Etomite for years and years - since the Phase days anyway… :)

Over the years, I’ve created many sites and had problems keeping the manager versions up to date for the sites.

Well I overcame part of the problem last week… I modified my version of Etomite to support multiple sites. But there’s one or two limitations… you can’t deny manager users seeing the other documents that others have created, or deny them access to each other’s snippets. It also means you can’t allow individual users access to your cPanel account for them to manage their own e-Mail address creation etc (or ftp)… What it is ideal for is for a site-manager who maintains many Etomite-based sites to do just that, maintain many sites from one install.

It’s a neat bit of trickery that I came up the concept for, which ralph wrote the couple of coded lines. It involves “parking” the domain on top of the other (cPanel concept that other control panel’s also implement), and then getting Etomite to detect the domain it’s running on and set the site start, error page, and site name on-the-fly from the config file… which actually works.

I’ve come up with another concept, but I’ve got to try it out first. I can’t go into details just now in case it doesn’t work, but if it does I’ll be sure to post back here…

Either way, I’ll be posting in a few days a method which works…
